With the advancement of AI technologies, in recent years we have seen various stories about medical robots being developed and applied for clinical purposes. Yet no one company has thought about making a friendly robot for the home that children can play with and interact with, that provides something more useful than just a few functions that children quickly get used to and soon lose interest in. A company called Inteli introduced the ‘Cloud Medical Platform’ at CHTF2016 – OK, we admit the name leaves a bit to be desired, but there is a lot more going on here than first meets the eye. The ‘Robot’ is actually meant to be a fun companion / educational toy / entertainment center – that has the added benefit of being able to monitor the family and in particular your child’s health The idea is a robot that provides entertainment, including laser projection image quality – not quite up to Star Wars level yet but it’s getting there… as well as integrating medical resources and access to specialists around the world, to provide a high-end personal medical platform.
In addition, the data of the robot can be synchronized to your mobile which allows the user to ‘interact through your smartphone and consult medical experts and undergo tele-diagnosis with available doctors’ – which is definitely something that is pretty cool, especially for parents of very young children who, like all parents before them , are prone to rush to the hospital at the slightest sign of anything being wrong only to be reassured that whatever the ailment “is perfectly normal for a child this age”. What we really liked was calling up and talking to people through the robot. Very young children absolutely love this part – older children over 30 say they found it ‘a bit weird the first time… however it soon becomes a source of fun once you get used to it.’ But that’s a whole other story.
